Today our baby girl had her follow up visit with her Pediatrician. At her previous visit, we saw that she gained a little bit of weight since seeing the lactation consultant but it still was not enough. Overall our baby lost 12oz before starting to pick up any weight. We knew this was too much and agreed that she would benefit from some supplementation. So over the weekend we supplemented by offering formula after breast feeding. Occasionally I gave a full formula feed while my wife pumped.
We’re happy to say that in just three days our baby has gained 5oz and that she’s really starting to fill in her onesies. We’re very excited that she is just 4oz away from her birth weight! Additionally, my wife’s milk supply seems to be increasing since she’s been pumping more. Tomorrow we will go back to see the lactation consultant and develop a plan.
So far our girl is tolerating everything just fine. We are noticing that she may be getting a little lazy at the breast at times so we will keep an eye on her. In the mean time, we’re going to enjoy her progress, even if it means that her onesies are already getting tight.
