After finding out that we were going to have a baby I did what every normal person would do, celebrate, panic, and scour the internet for what to do next. During my search I came across the interesting idea of a bump basket. Now a bump basket is little something that you get your BM to celebrate becoming pregnant. It can be anything, but it should ideally be something pregnancy related. I wanted to get her stuff that she could use and would need in the near future. So that meant going to a baby store. My first stop was to Babies R’ Us. I don’t normally go into baby stores so I was already a little uncomfortable. That, combined with their lack of customer service resulted in a trip that lasted about seven minutes. From there I ventured to the other side of town to visit Buy Buy Baby. From the moment I walked in it was a completely different atmosphere. Granted I was still a little uncomfortable, but the staff was extremely welcoming and helpful. They asked what they could help me with and that’s when I first said it. “My wife is pregnant.” It was sort of awkward to say but extremely invigorating. I explained that I wanted to do a bump basket and the staff was excited to help. Some near by customers heard what I was trying to do and even they started to help. They recommended this and that, and I had all sorts of options to choose from. When it was all said and done, I ended up getting a pregnancy pillow, a book, morning sickness tea, preggy pops, a sample kit of various belly butters and creams, and a list of a few other items to get at the grocery store. After gathering those items I took it home give to my wife the next morning (she works nights). She got home to the basket and loved it. It seemed to make it a bit more real for us both. If you made a bump basket for your BM I’d love to hear your story and what you put in yours.
